Curriculum, teaching and assessment are inextricably linked and, when each of these is aligned and of the highest quality, they enable effective learning for all pupils, irrespective of their starting points.

Building agency towards successful independent learning requires schools to instil and nurture positive learning habits through external enforcement and structure. How are primary and secondary schools starting to address this in their practices?

In some of the Trust's schools, leaders and teachers have been trialling new ways for pupils and students to develop their metacognitive skills through structured reflection opportunities in the curriculum planning. The impact of these over the past few years has been closely monitored and resulted in much more effective and practical ways for teachers to incorporate these into their regular practice. In this session, I will explain why the schools have been doing this and how their approaches are having a positive impact on pupils'/students' abilities to talk about their learning.
