King Charles and Queen Camilla led the nation in commemorating the 80th anniversary of VJ Day and the end of the Second World War. The King and Queen joined military personnel at the National Service of Remembrance at the National Arboretum in Staffordshire honouring those who lost their lives during the final three months of Second World War in the Far East, as well as honouring those who continue to fight today.

A military tribute was hosted by 400 members of the Armed Forces to commemorate those who served in the Second World War to bring it to a close 80 years ago. The British Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force formed a guard of honour during the service, with music provided by military bands throughout the event.

Earlier on in the day military bagpipers performed a lament at dawn to officially mark the beginning of the landmark 80th anniversary events. The bagpipers performed at various locations across the United Kingdom, including Whitehall and Edinburgh Castle in Scotland.
