【長崎／観光名所】長崎 出島／復元された西欧貿易の窓口 - Dejima in NAGASAKI, JAPAN / Restored window of Western European trade

出島は、長崎県長崎市にある江戸時代に造られた人工島。扇型で面積は3,969坪（約1.5ヘクタール）。
江戸幕府が「出島町人」と呼ばれた25人の豪商の出資により造らせた日本初の人工島です。
寛永13年（1636年）に完成した出島は、安政6年（1859年）にオランダ商館が閉鎖されるまで218年間に渡り、日本で唯一の海外窓口として近代化に大きな役割を果たしてきました。
江戸時代に出島に来航したオランダ船は、延べ700隻以上にのぼります。
江戸時代の初期にオランダから主に輸入されたものは生糸で、輸出していた主な品は銀でした。
江戸中期以降は、羅紗、ビロード、胡椒、砂糖、ガラス製品、書籍などを輸入し、銅、樟脳、陶磁器、漆器などが輸出されました。
明治37年（1904年）の港湾改良工事で、出島の周囲は埋め立てられ扇形の島は姿を消してしまいます。
扇形の島であった頃の面影は失いましたが、出島全体は大正11年（1922年）国の史跡に指定されました。
平成8年（1996年）より、往時の姿へ復元を目指す出島復元整備事業が長崎市により進められています。
約4000坪の江戸の佇みと異国情緒が融合したハイカラな出島は長崎観光からは外せません。

Dejima is an artificial island built in the Edo period in Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture. It is fan-shaped and has an area of about 1.5 hectares.
It was the first artificial island in Japan, built by the Edo shogunate with the investment of 25 wealthy merchants called "Dejima chonin" (Dejima merchants).
Completed in 1636, Dejima played a major role in Japan's modernization as Japan's sole point of contact with foreign countries for 218 years until the Dutch Trading Post closed in 1859.
A total of more than 700 Dutch ships visited Dejima during the Edo period.
The main import from the Netherlands in the early Edo period was raw silk, and the main export was silver.
From the middle of the Edo period onward, rasa, velvet, pepper, sugar, glassware, and books were imported, while copper, camphor, ceramics, and lacquerware were exported.
In 1904, during port improvement work, the area around Dejima was reclaimed and the fan-shaped island disappeared.
Although the island has lost its fan-shaped appearance, Dejima as a whole was designated as a national historic site in 1922.
Since 1996, the city of Nagasaki has been carrying out a restoration project to restore Dejima to its original appearance.
The stylish Dejima, which is about 1,000 square meters and combines the appearance of Edo with exoticism, is a must-see for sightseeing in Nagasaki.
