Former Palestinian detainee recounts torture methods at Israel’s Sde Teiman detention camp

“Most of the torture we endured, was being hit in the genitals and sensitive areas. Putting cigarettes out inside our mouths, on our bodies, and our genitals.”
Fadi Bakr, a 25-year-old displaced Palestinian man from Gaza City, recounts the torture he and other prisoners were subjected to in Israel’s Sde Teiman detention camp. Bakr was detained by Israeli forces on January 5, after being shot in the stomach by Israeli forces while he was going back to his house to search for flour.
According to a recently published report by The New York Times, which interviewed Israeli soldiers who worked at Sde Teiman as well as former Palestinian detainees, prisoners at Sde Teiman were subjected to beatings, torture, and sexual violence.
35 Palestinian prisoners out of 4,000 had died at the site since October 7, according to Sde Teiman officers who spoke to the Times.
