This is an interview with Michael Heyland discussing his time as a member of The D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. Michael was the Company's Director of Productions from 1969 until 1978.

This is part of a series of interviews and talks with former members of The D'Oyly Carte Opera Company giving their memories of being of tour for 48 weeks a year.

Please note: Some of the images shown in this presentation are for reference only and do not necessarily show the individuals being discussed.

The purpose of this “not for profit” project is to ensure that personal memories of the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company are not forgotten or lost.

A number of wonderful photographs have been used to illustrate the points being discussed. I give a massive thank you to all the photographers, both known and unknown.

This presentation contains images from both the 1975 D’Oyly Carte production of Utopia, Ltd and the Company’s production of The Mikado, showing characters in ethnic make-up and costume.
