Breeding pair of Barred Owls (Strix varia) in Dallas, Texas March 22, 2015 featuring calling hooting and duet calls towards each other from a cottonwood tree. These owls have a nest in a Red Oak tree about 100 feet away and are oriented in a way that they are calling towards their baby owlets that have recently hatched.

Barred Owls are quite loud, territorial and social birds during nesting season. The Barred Owls seen here eat a wide variety of food including crayfish, small ducks, birds, frogs and many species of rodents.
