Following an alleged stone-pelting incident near a mosque at Chomu bus stand on December 25, authorities have issued notices to four structures and 20 non-vegetarian food shops in the area, warning of potential bulldozer action.

According to Clarion India, residents have been given three days to remove stairs, platforms, and other constructions said to be on public land.

Muslim residents described the actions as selective and intimidating. “Our lanes are empty. People are scared to step out,” said a local shopkeeper. Mosque committee members questioned the timing, linking the notices to the recent dispute over iron railings at the mosque.

Officials maintained the drive targets encroachments and rule violations, stating notice holders have time to respond or remove structures. Police and Special Task Force personnel have been deployed to sensitive points, with patrolling increased to prevent unrest.

Community elders called for fairness, urging authorities to resolve issues through dialogue. Markets in some areas have reopened, but tension and fear persist in the affected Muslim neighbourhoods.
