The term ‘modernist’, most readily associated with the 20th century, is used with a certain freedom in this new 2-CD collection, which spans the period from the late 19th to the early 21st century. Key to its conception is that all six works share a sense of adventure and innovation – but there is no lack of lyricism, humanity, and spirituality.
