The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) releases the results of a year-long collaboration with leading companies examining alternative pathways for decarbonizing the U.S. economy.

With renewed debate in Washington on long-term climate solutions, this new analysis draws on the insights of companies across key sectors to illuminate not only technology options, but also the social, cultural and political drivers that can put the United States on the path toward a prosperous low-carbon economy.

The report is the latest product of C2ES’s Climate Innovation 2050 initiative. Produced in collaboration with the RAND Corporation and the University of Maryland’s Joint Global Change Research Institute, the report outlines three different scenarios for reducing U.S. greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by mid-century.

In addition to a presentation by the authors of the three scenarios and key takeaways, company representatives describe similar exercises undertaken by their firms to assess alternative futures and establish long-term climate goals.
