We kicked off American Father's Day with a 10 km walk at Rotfelden, Germany. Though the morning weather was unseasonably chilly (low-50's) for mid-June, the day quickly warmed up to a perfect wandering temperature (mid-high 60's). As noted last year, Rotfelden has much to offer. Nearly two thirds of the walk winded through fields of barley, wheat, and corn, and the rest was through wooded areas which is always nice. Because we started the walk early, it provided an unusual level of peace and serenity with just sounds of the wind blowing through the crops or birds chirping their morning songs. The trail, very similar to last year, was quite challenging. Though there were no steep inclines, you could feel the elevation changes, whether it was up or down. However, the views delivered by these elevations were amazing as the trails overlooked the surrounding valleys and villages. As noted last year, the 10 km trail went next to the Freizeit (Leisure) Park, which offers soccer golf as well as a nature farm featuring camels, goats, and pigs. Just like last year, Rotfelden brought in the crowd. As we finished our walk, the starthalle, both inside and out, was full of patrons enjoying the food and drink, and the company of fellow wanderers. Though the boys and our recent Volksmarching friends were busy today, we were able to meet up with our friend and club Vice President for a portion of today's walk...we hope to do that again! As usual, we enjoyed a traditional German dish (Weißwurst mit kartoffelsalat) to celebrate another outstanding Volksmarch.
