Snowshill is a small English village in Gloucestershire, set high on the Cotswold escarpment between Broadway and Winchcombe. The village has medieval origins and is known for its honey-coloured stone cottages, narrow lanes, and elevated views across the surrounding countryside.

The name Snowshill is believed to come from Old English, meaning “snowy hill” or “snow-covered ridge,” reflecting its exposed position on higher ground. For centuries, Snowshill developed as a farming community, shaped by sheep grazing and agriculture that once supported the Cotswolds’ historic wool trade.

Nearby is Snowshill Manor, a 16th-century house later restored in the early 20th century and now cared for by the National Trust. The surrounding gardens and hills add to the village’s timeless, slightly secluded character.

On wet mornings, Snowshill feels especially atmospheric, the stone darkens with rain, the lanes shine under soft light and the whole village takes on a quiet, reflective mood.
