DIY Gesture Sensor Using RP2040 and APDS-9500 | Control Your PC with Hand Gestures!

Welcome to our latest project where we take inspiration from Google's Project Soli to create our very own DIY gesture recognition sensor! This exciting project allows you to control your PC or Mac through intuitive gestures, providing a unique and futuristic way to interact with your devices.

In this video, we'll show you how to build a gesture sensor using the APDS-9500 sensor from Broadcom, which is capable of recognizing nine different gestures, including move up, move down, move left, move right, move forward, move backward, circle-clockwise, circle-counterclockwise, and wave. The heart of our project is the RP2040 ARM SoC from the Raspberry Pi Foundation. This powerful controller enumerates as an HID device when plugged in, sending pre-programmed responses to your PC using the HID protocol whenever a gesture is detected.

To ensure smooth operation, we're using the ADM7171 ultra-low noise LDO from Analog Devices for generating the 3.3V line for both the SoC and the sensor. Additionally, the ADM803 voltage supervisor chip from Analog Devices guarantees the proper operation of the SoC.
