Before I explain how to create a Newsletter and a News Digest, I explore the following important topics as well:

Newsletter vs. News Digest. Difference between a Newsletter and News Digest. First, it is important to understand the difference between a Newsletter and a News Digest. By Newsletter, I imply a single announcement within an email, and by News Digest, I imply multiple announcements within an email.

Communication Site. Before you create Newsletters and News Digests, you must first create the proper type of site. In almost all cases, a Communication Site Type template is the proper one for this specific use case.

Security & Permissions. In order for employees to be able to read and access Newsletters and News Digests, they must have read-only access to the site where such announcements exist.

News Web Part. News Web Part is the Web Part that allows us to manage all the Newsletters and News Digests you create. So, in this video, I explain all the various capabilities of this Web Part.

News Post vs. News Link. It is also equally important to understand the different between News Post and News Link. News Post refers to an announcement/post you create yourself. News Link is for existing resources that have been published elsewhere. By providing a link to an external source, you can easily publish an external announcement (article, blog post, resource) on your SharePoint Site and include it in the Newsletter or News Digest via email.

Site Pages Library. Site Pages Library is where all the pages, news posts, and news links are stored. It is also a place where SharePoint News Digests you create are stored. If you will be creating lots of news posts and newsletters, you will need to get familiar with the Site Pages Library.

Made for Email Templates. Microsoft recently released a number of "Made for Email" Templates. These email templates are pre-configured posts that are designed specifically for Newsletter email distribution. Unlike a standard post template, "Made for Email" templates are lightweight and are optimized for email distribution.

Newsletter Template. If you want to create your own Company Newsletter look and feel, you can create your own Post Template. I explain how to create such a template and have it available by default to the users during the Newsletter creation.
