Soooo..... the letterbox rattled today and I was massively surprised to see a parcel had arrived: mainly because I'd totally forgotten I'd bought anything... [It happens!!]

As soon as I opened it though and realised what it was, you couldn't believe the rush... before even spinning it!

The thing is, I've been looking for a decent copy of this for so many years now, to replace a very poor copy I've been satisfying my yearnings for Laura Johnson's syrupy-smooth sweet treacle of a voice with... It's a record that is truly beautiful, classically so & it does have a high book value [£200] which I just couldn't justify spending on a slowie... which translates as 'Just for my own pleasure!'

That valuation has seen me over the years spend an awful amount of time searching for and then bartering with various people; collectors & dealers alike... In fact I wasted an awfully long amount of time spread over a few months trying to barter with one dealer in particular over the copy he had on his list for ages... all to no avail. Even when offering nearly double the amount of value in very in-demand record(s) as a swap... More the fool him I say: cos I finally got this for very little indeed, and as a result I've still got the records I was loathe to offer up in the first place too!

The whole thing about quality and the value put on it should become comprehensible once you hear it, assuming you have a soul, because my God it's heartstopping in it's sublime beauty... like the warm but mournful notes that pour from a well played cello her voice wraps around you and holds you in it's passionate embrace...I just love it!

A little bit about her... she worked in the Correc-tone offices in Detroit where she self-funded the recording in '62 during the first of the Correc-tone sessions which included Wilson Pickett's 'Let Me Be Your Boy' [Cub, later Verve] and Marva Josie's 'Later For You Baby' [Time] which says lots about the pedigree involved. The Andantes provided the backing and Popcorn Wylie, fresh from Motown was also given a writing credit on this the A-side.

The tracks were then sold to Brent [NY] whose release would appear to be small & largely unsuccessful... explaining its obscurity and giving it's third of the most important attributes a record could have: Pedigree; Rarity; And beauty.... All you could ever ask, although be warned that the voice of this monstrously beautiful creation really is gonna kill you...
