Описание к видео Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, Episode 15, Season 2

In this episode (15) of Season 2 of Backyard Bugs with Brody, Brody leaves the backyard and explores Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium with his family. The adventure allows Brody to meet some interesting animals and insects from across the world.

The mission of Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is to inspire, educate, and engage people in the conservation of animals and their habitats. The area where the zoo is located was first founded in 1894 as Riverview Park. In 1895 Omaha purchased additional land and acquired its first animals (Moose and bear). In 1898 the zoo expanded its animal population to include deer, grizzly bear, bison and 120 other animals.

The first half of the 20th century saw the zoo continue to expand its exhibits and make other improvements. In 1952, the Omaha Zoological Society was organized to provide administrative help to the city. In 1963, the zoo received a generous donation from Margaret Hitchcock Doorly with the stipulation that the zoo be named after her late husband, Henry Doorly. The zoo made great advancements in the last half of the 20th century, including opening the largest cat complex in North America, the world's second largest walk-through aviary (Lee G. Simmons Free-Flight Aviary), the Lozier IMAX® theater, the world's largest indoor rainforest (Lied Jungle®), and the Walter and Suzanne Scott Kingdoms of the Seas Aquarium.

From 2000 to 2015, the zoo made remarkable investments to further its mission of education and conservation. That included the opening of the Suzanne and Walter Scott Aquarium, Stingray Beach, the Berniece Grewcock Butterfly and Insect Pavilion, the Hubbard Orangutan Forest, and the Hubbard Gorilla Valley. Brody's favorite exhibit also open during this period, the Desert Dome. The Dome is the world's largest indoor desert featuring animals from three different desert regions: the Namib, the Central Australian, and the Sonoran. The basement of the dome also includes the Eugene T. Mahoney Kingdoms of the Night®. It is the world’s largest nocturnal exhibit featuring caverns, bat caves, and the world’s largest indoor swamp.

Over the past seven years the zoo has added additional exhibits including the Scott African Grasslands, Scott Alaskan Adventure Splashgrounds, Glacier Bay Landing, Bay Family Children’s Adventure Trails, Asian Highlands, and the Owen Sea Lion Shores. The Own Sea Lion Shores features a 275-thousand-gallon pool, 40-foot-long underwater viewing window, an underwater kelp forest, and sandy beach areas. The Asian Highlands includes exhibits for snow leopard, sloth bear, Sichuan takin, Chinese goral, Amur tiger, red panda, white-naped cranes, Indian rhinos, tufted deer, and Pere David's deer. The African Grasslands is the largest project in Zoo history at $73 million and 28 acres.

If you are new to the channel, Brody is fascinated by bugs and animals. At first, he would watch wildlife documentaries and YouTube videos. Then he started going outside and exploring to see what he could find. It didn't take long before he started finding some interesting creatures in our own backyard. He loved sharing his discoveries with his brother, sister, and friends so much that we started this channel. This way he can show them videos and not just describe the bug or animal. Brody does all his own research, with some help from his parents, as well as his uncle and aunt who are biologist. He looks up facts on the animals and bugs he catches and shares them. Despite his confidence, Brody is not a bug expert. (Although he thinks he is.) All comments from Brody should be taken as opinion until confirmed by experts.
