MELBA LISTON (Breaking the gender barrier) Jazz History #32

Описание к видео MELBA LISTON (Breaking the gender barrier) Jazz History #32

Melba Liston was a woman instrumentalist in jazz at a time when that was an uncommon role. That her chosen instrument was the trombone makes her even more so. Her performance of My Reverie in this video demonstrates an impactful combination of sensitivity and power. Ultimately, she made her biggest mark as a composer and arranger, collaborating with Randy Weston, Quincy Jones and others. As a woman of color in a male-dominated field during times of segregation, Melba faced an uphill battle to put it mildly, and she paved the way for women in jazz to follow, even as the protagonist in a children's book.
