Is your Honda Hornet 160R feeling sluggish, vibrating at high speeds, or giving you low mileage after crossing the 60,000 km mark?
You’ve come to the right place!
Welcome back to the channel! In today’s detailed video, we are performing a Major Service on the Honda Hornet 160R. Hitting the 60,000-kilometer milestone is a big deal for any single-cylinder motorcycle. It’s the point where your bike transitions from "used" to "aging," and how you treat it now determines whether it runs for another 60,000 km or starts giving you trouble every month.
This isn't just a basic oil change; this is a complete health checkup and restoration service. We are tearing down the essential components, inspecting wear and tear, and replacing parts that have served their lifetime. If you own a Hornet 160R, CB Unicorn 160, or even the X-Blade, this guide will be incredibly helpful for you.
📝 DETAILED SERVICE BREAKDOWN & PARTS INFO:
At 60,000 km, general servicing is not enough. Here is the technical breakdown of what we are doing today and why it matters for your Hornet 160R:
1. Engine Health:
We are switching to a high-grade fully synthetic or semi-synthetic engine oil (10W30 / 10W40). At this mileage, carbon deposits are common. We also open the clutch cover to clean the centrifugal oil filter (strainer), which is often neglected by local mechanics. If your pickup has dropped, this is the time to check the friction plates and pressure plates.
2. The Breathing System (Air & Fuel):
A clogged viscous air filter is the #1 enemy of mileage. We are replacing the air filter and the spark plug. We also perform a deep clean of the Carburetor (or Throttle Body for BS6 models) to ensure the Air-Fuel mixture is crisp. This resolves cold start problems and unstable RPMs.
3. Suspension & Steering:
Many riders ignore fork oil. After 60k km, fork oil loses viscosity, leading to a bouncy or stiff ride. We are draining the old sludge and refilling it with fresh fork oil. We also check the "Cone Set" (Steering racer). If your handle feels heavy or makes a "thud" noise over potholes, the cone set needs replacement.
4. Drivetrain (Chain & Sprocket):
The Hornet 160R has a sporty torque curve, which puts stress on the chain. We are inspecting the chain slack and sprocket teeth. If the teeth are hooked or pointy, we replace the entire Chain Sprocket Kit to prevent snapping and ensure smooth power delivery.
5. Braking Efficiency:
We check the Nissin brake calipers, grease the slide pins, and replace the brake fluid (DOT 3 or DOT 4). Old fluid absorbs moisture and causes "brake fade." We also inspect the thickness of the disc pads and the condition of the rotor.
💰 ESTIMATED COST (Prices may vary by location):

⚠️ IMPORTANT MAINTENANCE TIPS FOR HORNET OWNERS:
Chain Lube: Lube your chain every 500 km. A dry chain ruins the riding experience.
Tyre Pressure: Maintain 25 PSI (Front) and 29 PSI (Rear) for solo riding to prevent rim bends.
Idling: Let the bike idle for 30 seconds in the morning to circulate oil before riding.
