CONSUMER ALERT!!

My Son was given a Razor Dirt Quad for Christmas by Santa in December 2009. It seemed well designed, and better quality than other electric riding toys. Unfortunately, this was not true.

After using only riding this toy on our neighborhood sidewalks on evening walks a few times a month, the Razor Dirt Quad quit working after five months.

My 5 year old son only rode this on sidewalks, on evening walks with supervision by us. So no crashing or abusive use was ever inflicted on the toy.

I called Razor and was informed that they only had a 90 day warranty.

I explained to the Razor customer service that my 5 year old son rode this toy the equivalent of less than 20 times, so there must be a manufacturer defect.
Razor said they would only offer me free shipping. I would have to buy parts and labor. But the customer service agent said to call back after we find out what was wrong by "taking the toy to one of their authorized repair shops".
I assumed that if the repair shop suspected a manufacturer defect, and not abuse to the toy, or operator error, Razor might warranty the parts.

I then took the Razor Dirt Quad to the authorized repair shop, and was called 2 days later. I was told that the toy had a "faulty throttle assembly" and also an "electronic sending unit".

The technician said that most likely this was probably defective from the manufacturer, because such a short time had passed, and so little use had been put on the toy.
He said that Razor told him they would send the parts to the shop. We both had assumed that I would pay his labor of about $90-$100.

At this point, I felt the issue was somewhat resolved, was a win/win, and Razor would at least cover parts. They would stiff me with $100 of labor, but my son wanted his toy.

Unfortunately, it is now September 2nd, 2010, and Razor has still not sent the parts after over 2 months.
The repair technician has called Razor, and no one from Razor will call him back, or email him to give him an update on the parts. No one at Razor will call him to explain why this is taking so long!

The repair shop owner, who sells electric scooters and mopeds, said that had he "been at the shop when I dropped the Razor Dirt Quad off, he would not have accepted the Razor toy" to repair.
The repair shop owner also stated that Razor has a recurring trend to not ship parts reliably. Leaving their customers without any support or service.

We paid over $450 for this toy, and even if the Razor company will not step up and warranty their manufacturing defects, you would think that they could pay customer support staff to work at their company. Then at least Razor could return phone calls.

This is typical fleecing of the consumer, where a California company has their toy product made in China, with shoddy quality. Then charge us $450 as if it was made here in the USA!

Other comparable electric riding toys are about half the price at Toy stores. So I had assumed Razor would be much better quality, as I believe you get what you pay for in life.

I purchased this Razor Dirt Quad online, just a month before Christmas. It was not available in my market. I would not ever do this again, or buy any Razor product. Yet they advertise on their website how they are highly regarded by and ranked for quality.

The Online company that sold me the Razor Dirt Quad is called Hi Tech Cyber Solutions in Houston, Texas. They collected my credit card online, then drop shipped the Razor Dirt Quad from China, just before Christmas.
