Going Camping with an Electric Wheelchair and Hoist

Описание к видео Going Camping with an Electric Wheelchair and Hoist

This Vlog episode details tips and ideas regarding camping for wheelchair users.

Andrew who has Muscular Dystrophy uses a mid-wheeldrive Electric All Terrain Electric Wheelchair from Magic Mobility is non ambulant and requires a hoist to be lifted from his electric wheelchair to the bed.

Going Camping in a wheelchair is not without its challenges and Andrew is very fortunate to have great support (in this episode his brother and his son Thomas support Andrew with Andrew’s father and mother also lending a hand when needed).

The wheelchair camping tent that was used was the same one that Boris Johnson used on his Scottish holiday of the summer of 2020. The tent has a matted floor and is big enough for a 4 foot six double bed to be constructed inside. To make it easier to move around with the mid wheeldrive electric wheelchair they put some wooden chipboards down where Andrew would drive over.

The portable standing frame hoist which is an Oxford Journey can be wheeled into the tent and moved around on the boards so Andrew could easily be hoisted from his electric wheelchair onto the bed making it possible for him to sleep in the tent over night.

The Electric Wheelchair is a Frontier V6 which is All Terrain and ideal for the great outdoors with large four by four wheels perfect for rolling over grass and mud. This was filmed during the hot summer of 2020 in the deepest darkest kent countryside and was the first time Andrew had slept over at his family home since he moved out in 2003.
