In this tutorial I cover how to receive remote push notifications in an iPhone, iPad (or iOS device generally) in your application. Since sending remote push notifications requires a web server and setting that up has significant overhead, I utilize the 3rd party service Parse.com to send the notifications(*).

I walk through the steps for obtaining the correct cryptographic credentials/certificates from Xcode, the Apple developer site and Parse.com. I show how to import them in Keychain and export them in the formats required.

Then I show how to create a skeleton Xcode project using the Parse Cocoapod to receive the remote notifications.

To do the same steps that I do in this tutorial you will need an OS X platform for development (laptop or desktop typically), a physical iOS device for receiving push notifications (simulators cannot receive them) and a developer account with Apple (typically $99/year although colleges can obtain this for free for their students).
