Malmi is a regional center and a major district in the northeastern part of Helsinki, Finland. It has a population of approximately 24,312 residents as of 20081. The area consists of several sub-districts, including Ylä-Malmi, Ala-Malmi, Pihlajamäki, Tattariharju, Malmin lentokenttä (Malmin Airport), and Pihlajisto. The former Helsinki-Malmi Airport, established in the 1930s, was used for general aviation and government purposes, including the Border Guard. However, the airport’s runway was closed in March 2021, and flight operations ceased. Malmi is also intersected by the main railway line, with Malmi railway station serving as an important hub due to its numerous connections and the large population living nearby.
