A new study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) via NCDIR Bengaluru highlights alarming trends in breast cancer among women in India. Key findings include:

India recorded 2,21,757 new cases in 2022, with a 5.6% annual rise.

Risk factors include obesity, poor sleep, late marriage, menopause after 50, and high-fat diets.

While processed and red meat may contribute to cancer risk, non-veg diets themselves aren’t a direct cause.

Evidence suggests non-starchy vegetables, carotenoid-rich foods, dairy, and regular physical activity may reduce risk.

Experts stress that lifestyle, diet quality, processed foods, and food adulteration play a role in public health, rather than simply veg vs non-veg debates.
