Documentary about President Franklin D. Roosevelt made on the occasion of his first month in office, March 1933. It includes quite a bit of his history, including his stint as Asst. Secretary of the Navy during WWI and his term as Governor of New York prior to running for President in 1932. The footage is almost entirely stock footage from Universal's newsreel archive and there is wall-to-wall narration. The editing is somewhat disjointed, going back and forth in time somewhat randomly. The only one who gets to speak extensively on his own is FDR himself, seen and heard in various clips, including his March 4 inauguration speech. The one historical figure who is heard from is Ramsay MacDonald, Prime Minister of England, seen giving a speech on economics at the National Press Club. It's quite a puff piece designed to urge audience support for the President during the darkest days of the Depression. It was made by Universal Pictures and it's hard to imagine such a work of unabashed propaganda being made by a major Hollywood studio to celebrate a sitting president today. This hour-long film was shown in theaters.
