Analysis: Cyclone Chido exasperates political tensions in Mozambique

Mozambique’s disputed election results have sparked protests from opposition supporters since the vote in November. The unrest has affected business operations, including for mining companies, and even led to closure of key trade corridors. According to a senior International Monetary Fund Official, Mozambique's 2024 economic growth is likely to be revised down from a previous forecast of 4.3 percent due to post-election civil unrest and the impact of Cyclone Chido.
