Description
Patty Cannon was one of the most notorious criminals of early 19th-century America. Operating along the Delaware–Maryland border, Cannon led a gang that kidnapped free African-Americans and sold them into slavery, and she was implicated in the brutal murders of those who resisted.
This story exposes a dark chapter of American history, revealing how greed, racism, and the illegal slave trade thrived even as abolitionist movements were gaining strength. By examining Patty Cannon’s crimes, we confront the realities of racial violence and human trafficking during the slavery era and honor the victims whose stories were nearly erased.
