[S1E17] LUA TABLES & LUA ARRAYS: Understanding what tables (aka Arrays) in Lua are, how they work in LUA and why you might use one

In this Lua Programming Solar 2d lesson I resolve a logic problem of the order of the programs flow by using an array.

This Tic Tac Toe game is being built using the Solar 2d Scene Template.
In the scene create event, the board is built. When building the board it needs to be given an event listener to help identify when people click on a grid to place their character, but the problem is, that these actions take place after the build in the Scene Show Did event section of the template.


To resolve this issue, as we create the individual small grid squares, we name them and then place then in an array/table.


This table array was created outside of the scene events, so all scene events can then use it.


Meaning that later in the code execution, during the Show Did event phase, we can access each sqaure, by circulating through the array, adding to each object an event listener as we go, meanind the function gets called can be then placed in the correct location of our template logic and called on when needed.


Unlike other programming languages, arrays/tables start counting from 1 (and not position 0) and can hold a mixture of different data types, such as numbers, objects, other arrays, strings etc...
