The Red Sox suffered a 16-1 drubbing to the Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field in the opening game of their 3-game series Monday night. The Red Sox are now 2-4 in the 1st game of a series through their 1st 6 series of the season. The Rays scored 14 of their runs over the 1st 3 Innings, including 9 runs in the 3rd Inning. The Rays hit 4 Home Runs in the lopsided win, including 2 from Kameron Misner.

It Wasn't Pretty: Tanner Houck made his 4th start of the season in the opener Monday night and did not make it out of the 3rd Inning. Houck gave up a leadoff Home Run on the 1st pitch that he threw to Yandy Diaz to start off the home 1st-Inning. Houck came back and retired the next 3 hitters on 8 pitches. Houck gave up 4 runs in the 2nd and allowed his 2nd Home Run of the game, a 2-run shot to Kameron Misner. The Rays scored 9 runs in the 3rd off Houck and Michael Fulmer, who was making his Red Sox debut. #89's Line: 2.1 IP. 10 Hits. 12 R. 11 ER. 2 BB. 1 K. 2 HR Allowed. The Red Sox are 1-3 in Houck's 1st 4 outings.

Hitter Notes: The Red Sox struck out 14 against Rays starter Shane Baz (11 Ks) and the Rays bullpen Monday night. The Red Sox continue to lead the Majors in strikeouts and have struck out 10 or more times in 12 of their first 18 Games. Rafael Devers went 0-for-3 with 2 strikeouts Monday night and is hitless in his last 13 at-bats. David Hamilton went 0-for-3 on the night and is hitless in his last 12 at-bats and he's 1-21 on the season.

Campbell has 6 multi-hit games and has reached multiple times in a game 9 times this season. Campbell started in the Outfield for the 4th time this season and for the 3rd time in Centerfield in Monday night's opener.

What's On Tap?: The Red Sox and Rays will continue their series Tuesday night with the middle game of their 3-game series. Walker Buehler is set to start for rthe Red Sox Tuesday night. The Sox listed TBD for their starter in their Game Notes for the finale on Wednesday. The Red Sox have a scheduled day off on Thursday and open up a 7-game homestand with the 1st of 4 against the White Sox on Friday. The Red Sox will also host the Mariners for a 3-game series on the backend of the Homestand.

Red Sox Trade: The Red Sox traded Pitcher Quinn Priester to the Milwaukee Brewers for minor league outfielder Yophery Rodriguez, a competitive balance pick (#33) in the 2025 MLB Draft and a player to be named later or cash considerations on Monday. Rodriguez was touted as the 7th-best prospect in the Brewers system according to MLB Pipeline. He’s 19 and started this season off at the Advanced-A Level. Priester was acquired from the Pirates last July for infielder Nick Yorke. Priester made his MLB debut on the final day of the 2024 Regular Season, and he earned the win vs. the Tampa Bay Rays.
