SketchUp 2025 just dropped, and my take? It’s vanilla—most people will like it, but it’s not what I would have ordered.

SketchUp 2025 brings some nice refinements—like Physically Based Rendering (PBR) materials, a new Environments system, and better tag management—but none of these features drastically change how I work in SketchUp and LayOut. And there’s one regression that actually hurts the workflow.

So is SketchUp 2025 worth the upgrade? Or is it just another safe, predictable release? I’ll break down all the new features, show you what works (and what doesn’t), and give my take from the perspective of a residential designer using SketchUp Pro and LayOut for real projects.
