Home-Made Sky Active, Text and Guide Replica/Re-Make Walkthrough

(The recording had all the music and all of the background and channel videos in it so I cut them out because for YouTube they're not really needed.)

A walkthrough of a replica of the old Sky guide and some interactive services which I made a couple of years ago out of boredom and childhood nostalgia. (I say that, I was arguably still a child at 12, 13 and 14 when I made the various iterations of this [hence it says 'EPG Software V3.1' at 0:11])

I made it using Nero Video and the backgrounds of pages with background videos using Keynote with predominantly the hundreds of assets downloaded from past iterations of Sky websites on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine as well as my own recordings and memory. It runs off a DVD or at least a DVD file structure.

Fun Fact:
By the end a lot of the pages wouldn't encode (Which is why there are various features missing because it was easier to just delete them than try and fix them such as the other help videos besides the 'How Sky Gets To You' one) so I took all the assets off them and put them on other pages I was willing to lose, I didn't even change the names of the pages so in the end a lot of the links seemed confusing but the final product works so none of that matters.

Also the channels I chose to feature were chosen for nostalgia reasons and all of them just have adverts on which were chosen for the same reason, hence I cut them all out because to everyone else they’re just a bunch of adverts that add nothing to the Sky material. (Apart from the Sky Intro and Preview channels which are just videos from my own collection and YouTube.) Other sections such as Domino’s Pizza and Sky Bet were never a part of my childhood and as such are just roughly based on YouTube videos because I thought it could look good. Finding that transparent photo of the pizza guy was very convenient I must say. The Sky Games page was a lot better in a previous iteration, I don't really know why it's so poor in this one.

The ‘Program Your Remote’ section is a) not very accurate as it was mostly a way of using leftover assets from the internet that I didn’t want to go to waste and this was because unlike everything else this section’s primary function wasn’t to look accurate but to be b) actually functional (on the TV I made this to predominantly be used on). Those codes do connect the selected rev of remote to it. Then by pressing help twice to open and close the input/source menu the Sky remote can then be used for basic navigation within the replica running from the disc (this only works as the TV has a built-in DVD player). The help twice method works because when you press it once it opens the source menu and makes the arrows and select operate the TV to allow you to navigate the source menu, and by pressing it again the menu closes but the remote doesn’t know that (because if it just stopped operating it what if the user had just pressed it by mistake or wasn't pointing it at the TV when they pressed it) so it remains in control of the TVs navigation does anyone think I need to get out more?
