The Narrow Traboules Welcome Visitors To A Hidden Lyon France

Описание к видео The Narrow Traboules Welcome Visitors To A Hidden Lyon France

A bright afternoon may conceal a secret passageway in Old Lyon. Beyond the eyes of a prying city, there exists residential habitations that may scale several stories.

The term Traboule was formally introduced in 1894. These clandestine passageways wind their route through buildings, courtyards and intricate staircases. Each passage is unique and often features buildings with pastel colors, confounding curves, arches, vaulted ceilings and spiral staircases. Each traboule radiates mystery and intrigue within the shadows.

This Traboule entry begins at 4 rue Desiree and is modest in comparison with some of the more storied routes. There was a period not so long ago that these niches were unpopular and in poor repair. A governmental subsidy during the 1990s changed that situation with an attached cost. Residents were obliged to allow visitors and tourists to enter the grounds during the daytime and into the evening hours at 7 p.m. Many visitors are still prone to arrive afterwards particularly during the summer months. It has become a minor inconvenience, but one that has enabled the continued habitation and standards making this unusual living quarters highly desirable.

Besides residential living, Traboules sometimes offer commercial and merchant spaces within. The winding staircases to each floor are often as picturesque as the tiled courtyards and roofing.
