Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu, addressed the recent airline crisis, stating that for the first time, the government intervened by setting price slabs to control exorbitant fares. In an interview with India Today, Naidu outlined his vision to combat the market duopoly, declaring, 'I have clearly said we need five airlines with at least 100 aircrafts each for one airline'. He criticised IndiGo for its lack of preparedness for the new FDTL norms and for not informing passengers about cancellations in a timely manner. The minister also highlighted long-term structural solutions, including the establishment of a Safran MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) facility in Hyderabad, which he proudly announced will reduce maintenance time and costs for airlines, ultimately benefiting the passenger. Naidu assured that his ministry is analysing every aspect of the crisis with a 'passenger centric approach'.
