Smart Boat 6: Automatic Anchor light using a Shelly 1 relay and Home Assistant

Описание к видео Smart Boat 6: Automatic Anchor light using a Shelly 1 relay and Home Assistant

Whether your boat is old or new, my goal with this channel is to assist you in turning it into an incredible smart vessel. The best part is, you don't need to be a tech whiz to achieve this! I've designed the content specifically for those with no technical background, so everyone can benefit from it.

In today's video, we're diving into a fantastic upgrade for your boat's anchor light. We'll be setting it up to be controlled by a virtual switch, enabling automatic on/off functionality with the help of the Shelly 1 relay. The Shelly 1 is a top-notch Wi-Fi-controlled relay switch widely used in home automation. It boasts a large following and seamlessly integrates with Home Assistant. The best part is, you can grab a Shelly 1 for around $15 USD. However, if you're looking for a more cost-effective option, there's an 8-switch relay board available on Ally Express for about $20. I personally have it installed on my boat, but it's a bit more complex to set up and doesn't integrate as easily with Home Assistant. Perhaps we'll cover that in another video.

Although we'll be demonstrating the setup process with the anchor light, you can follow the exact same procedure to control any other 12V light or device on your boat. Deck lights, external horns, bilge pumps—you name it!

Throughout the video, we'll guide you through the following steps:

1. Setting up the Shelly 1 for 12V power.
2. Explaining the various wiring options available.
3. Connecting the power and performing basic configuration using the Shelly App.
4. Establishing a Wi-Fi connection between the Shelly 1 and Home Assistant.
5. Updating the Shelly 1 firmware for optimal performance.
6. Creating a virtual switch within Home Assistant.
7. Finally, we'll set up an automation that will turn the anchor light on and off automatically at sunset and sunrise.
