Formatting an External Hard Drive for Mac, Windows, and Linux on a Mac (NTFS and APFS to ExFAT)

Описание к видео Formatting an External Hard Drive for Mac, Windows, and Linux on a Mac (NTFS and APFS to ExFAT)

To transfer files between a Mac and a Windows PC using an external hard drive, the drive must be formatted in a file system that both operating systems can read and write. The best options are FAT32 or ExFAT; the video explains the differences.

External drives typically come pre-formatted in NTFS, a Windows file system that Macs can only read but not write to. To ensure compatibility with Mac, Windows, and Linux, reformat the drive to ExFAT, which is the preferred choice.

If the disk is pre-formatted in APFS (the new Mac format), the process of converting it to ExFAT is slightly different. This video covers that process as well.
