This time I wanted to tell the story of Anne Lister (Suranne Jones) and her former lover Mariana Lawton (Lydia Leonard). Many times Anne wrote into her diaries that she wanted to move on, find someone who wanted to be with HER. When I first heard that song, I immediately thought of these two women. You'll never forget the first great love and it's also not easy to leave it behind. So yeah, even though Mariana hurt Anne in so many ways, it was still very difficult for her to bury this love. And I don't think, she ever really did.
