Many Icelanders believe in elves. Between 30 and 40% of Icelanders will not deny the existence of elves.

The Icelandic language is relatively unchanged from Old Norse, which has been spoken on this island for over a thousand years.

Iceland is famous for its geysers. As far back as the 13th Century, there are documented findings of this geological feature.

Iceland is the only NATO country not to have a standing army, air force or navy. It is actually an unusually peaceful and laidback place.

Iceland is a volcanic island with over 130 active volcanoes. The largest is Bardarbunga, which can be found in south Iceland.

Europe’s largest glacier is in Iceland. Known as the Water Glacier, this enormous force of nature covers approximately 8% of the country’s total landmass.

There are only two places on earth that do not have mosquitoes; Antarctica and Iceland. There are also no snakes, scorpions or poisonous spiders.

Iceland is among the few places on the planet where one can witness the Northern Lights in action.

Over two-thirds of Iceland’s 360,000-strong population live in and around Reykjavik, the capital of the country.

You can swim outdoors in hot springs all year round. An Icelandic experience is not complete without a dip in a hot spring!
