NASCAR UNDERDOGS: Scott Riggs

Scott Riggs is a former Nascar Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series driver who competed from (1999-2014). Though his racing career began much earlier, when at the age of 14, he began competing in the American Motorcycle Association. Winning two state championships in North Carolina two years in a row. Before at the age of 17, Riggs began racing Nascar Mini Stocks. Finding success, winning 12 races throughout his first three seasons. Riggs would end up competing in the Mini Stocks division for the next decade, becoming a two time champion at Southern National Speedway.

Finally by 1999 Riggs both found success in Late Models, winning the Myrtle Beach 400 and the Thanksgiving All-Star Classic, as well as making his Nascar Craftsman Truck Series debut driving Robert Long's #84 Ford at IRP. By 2001, he had a full-time ride in the Craftsman Truck Series for Ultra Motorsports in their #2 Dodge. Finding immediate success, winning several poles and races on his way to 5th in point standings. For 2002, Scott Riggs again jumped up to the Xfinity Series full-time, for PPC Racing's #10 Ford. This is where he would remain until 2004, when Riggs made it to the Nascar Cup Series full-time for MBV Motorsports #10 Chevrolet.

Riggs would get a few poles and a few top 5 finishes throughout his Nascar Cup Series career but really never found the perfect situation for him to thrive in. He would spend the remainder of his career from 2008-2014 jumping from low end ride to low end ride.
His son Layne Riggs is a Nascar Craftsman Truck Series driver today, and looks as though he could possess the talent to one day be a Cup Series star.
