𝗨𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗨𝗴𝗹𝘆. 𝗜𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝘆 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗨𝗽?

Utility markings are required by state law.

In Florida, for example, the law is called the Safe Digging Law (aka Call Before You Dig) but every state in the nation has a similar law.

Its primary purpose is to protect underground utility lines and other subsurface infrastructure from accidental damage during excavation projects.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘄

• 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Before starting any digging or excavation work, property owners, contractors, or excavators are required to contact a designated notification center—usually by dialing 811—to alert utility companies of their plans.
• 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲: This notification must be made a certain number of hours (often at least 48 hours) in advance to allow time for utility companies to locate and mark underground lines.
• 𝗨𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: Once notified, utility companies will send technicians to mark the locations of underground facilities such as gas, water, electric, telecommunications, and other services.
• 𝗟𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀: Failing to notify before excavation can lead to serious risks, including accidental damage to underground utilities, which can result in service disruptions, dangerous situations, and potential legal or financial liabilities.

In essence, the law is designed to safeguard public infrastructure, protect workers, and minimize the risks and costs associated with accidental utility strikes during excavation projects.

These markings are all over the place and they are very ugly. They look like graffiti.

There has to be a better way!! Is there a technology solution that can eliminate the need for these markings?
