To hear the media tell it, the world is on the brink of collapse because of catastrophic climate change. Urgent action is required, and by action, they mean the government needs to increase taxes and increase their control over the economy. The science is settled, and any who dares challenge the climate change orthodoxy is a DENIER.

But is this narrative really the truth? Does a 1 degree centigrade increase in warming per decade really pose a catastrophic threat to the human race? Or could it be that the hysteria concerning global warming is overstated? A few brave individuals have dared to challenge the church of climatologists and challenge this notion that the sky is falling and we all better do exactly what they say or else.

This isn't to say that global warming is a hoax. We accept that the Earth is warming. Most of us even believe Co2 emissions to be the most likely cause. But at the same time, fossil fuels are the lifeblood of the global economy. And if we want to help the billions of people around the world presently languishing in abject poverty, we are going to have to increase our use of energy, not curtail it entirely.

Much of the debate is driven by radical environmentalists who are opposed to humanity itself. They see nature as a pristine state, and any effort by man to ameliorate scarcity by transforming his environment to better serve his needs as somehow evil or perverse. If they had there way, we would see radical depopulation and an extreme anti human anti prosperity agenda imposed upon the population.

An additional facet of this discussion is anti-capitalist communists who have hijacked the environmentalist movement for their own political ends.

Luckily, things aren't nearly as bad as they want you to believe. The human race is continuing to thrive. Co2 is contributing to global greening, a negative feedback mechanism which can help reduce the impact of a warming earth. The warming has been concentrated in colder regions, which stand to gain the most benefit from global warming, and humanity is continuing to demonstrate our innovativeness and our adaptability.
