Goals are the rulers for measuring success.

Any vision worth bringing to fruition involves a program or strategic initiative.

Hence, the first step is to determine the goal of the initiative.

We may not know immediately how to achieve the goal, but over time we can gain insight from the results of our actions moving forward that will enable us to be more effective in our pursuit.

A strategy map will enable us to craft a hypothesis to detail how the initiative will improve upon the performance of the organization.

The goal of the initiative can be set for any of the four main perspectives of the business:

✅ Financial -- Increase value for shareholders, donors, or taxpayers
✅ Customer -- Increase value for target market (customer experience)
✅ Internal -- Increase business value (processes, systems, products)
✅ Learning and Growth -- Prepare and motivate your people to contribute to the vision (core value)
