Terrace farming is a technique in farming where the terrain is particularly hilly or steep. It is used throughout the world and commonly found in Asia. In 1995, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre designated the Rice Terraces of The Philippine Cordilleras a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Terrace farming makes cultivation easier on hill slopes which might otherwise not have been possible. The absence of terrace fields would have led to most parts of Asia being less productive.
