Hao Asakura, an ancient shaman who learned to reincarnate himself, is reborn in the present and escapes his family with the Spirit of Fire while leaving behind his twin brother Yoh. Years later, Yoh Asakura meets Manta Oyamada and awakens the spirit of a samurai named Amidamaru while dealing with a gang of hoodlums lead by Ryunosuke Umemiya. Yoh befriends both Manta and Amidamaru, with the later becoming his companion.
