Music has the ability to relate to emotions and feelings and of the artist at the time to which the listener can relate to
it also has the ability to contain and convey the artists point of view be it on general life, politics or an experience.
It can be a great means of therapy, a way to be creative and a way to send a message to your listeners.
But what if that message was either by concidence or intentionally put into a song as a means of getting a message out?

Backmasking is a recording technique in which a sound or message is recorded backward onto a track which is meant to played
forward. Backmasking is a deliberate process in which backward or subliminal messages are recorded within a piece of music
which has been utilized by artists such as "Weird Al Yankovich" and his song Nature Trail to Hell
or the B52's song Detour through your mind although these songs were done in parody and with hilarious results.
Some messages in various artists songs have sparked controversey as well as debate in the wider community
as to whether or not these have been done intentionally or not.

Accusations of Backmasking reached a heated and tragic high in 1990 when popular UK heavy metal band Judas Priest
were taken to court over the accusation that their lyrics and embedded backward messages had driven two fans to suicide
Attorney argued that they heard the words "do it" in the song "better by you, better than me" off their 1978 album "Stained Class"
By Aug. 24, 1990, the Washoe County District Court had dismissed the case.

From alledged messages of satanic worship to an apparent speculation of a dead beatle.

3. Stairway to Heaven/Led Zeppelin
Forming in 1968 the group consisted of guitarist Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham,
The bands heavy driven guitars and overall sound has led most to agree that Led Zeppelin innovated what would later
become Heavy metal.
The band through its years was the conversation of many legends and speculations due to recreational drug use and
Jimmy pages fascination with the occult most notably an interest in Allistair Crowley which would only fuel further speculation
with the release of Stairway to heaven off the "Led Zeppelin 4 album" when a certain section of the song played backwards
has the following message, Listen.

2.Dinner at Deviants palace/Cradle of Filth
This prelude track on the bands 2001 album "Bitter Suites to Succubi" is a mixture of creepy creepy atmoshphere and what appears
to be backward gibberish before the song ends on a climax with organs and pig squeals in the background.
To add to the unease of this track playing it forward reveals the backwards gibbersh is actually the lords prayer being recited forwards
Although this is done intentionally to fit with the bands theme of satanism and the occult it is still a song that one would think
twice about listening to in a dark room alone.

1.Revolution 9/The Beatles
Recorded in 1968 this sound collage created by John Lennon with the assistance if George Harrison and Yoko Ono appeared on the "White Album"
Although strange to begin with, in its Avante garde mish mash you hear over and over again a creepy british voice saying number 9 repeatedly throughout
the track along with screaming, crying the sounds of a crash and other unsettling sounds.
Reversing this song however provides an even more disturbing message which sparked rumors that Bassist Paul Mccartney was dead take a listen.


To this day, some proponents of this urban legend believe that the real Mccartney was replaced with a look-alike who produced hits such as
"silly love songs" but could never have given us classics such as "yesterday" and "elanor rigby" what do you think about this theory?
