Crossing the border from the Netherlands into Germany in the worst weather we have ever driven in. High winds were rocking the van and causing tree branches to crash to the road in front of us and the torrential rain made it very difficult to see the road. But we made it into Cologne to experience our first Stellplatz.
After a quick trip round Cologne Cathedral we headed for the start of the Romantic road in Würzburg. What an amazing town, the weather was really hot and loads of people were out drinking wing on the old Main Bridge.
The palace is one of the 'must see' places to visit if you go here and it didn't disappoint.
Next on the route was Wertheim, although not strictly on the Romantic Road, we had heard the had a stunning castle which we could park beneath. The Stellplatz was amazing, right by the river and at the foot of the castle. A fairy tale start to our journey.
