Austria, the EU, and Human Rights Watch promoted children’s “right to develop sexual relationships” and advocated for the decriminalization of certain forms of child pornography during the negotiations of a new cybercrime treaty.

The Syrian Arab Republic, delivering a statement for over 20 other UN member states, opposed the asks of the European countries and insisted that countries need to do more to protect children from online pornography, not less.

The video recordings correspond to the plenary meetings of the Reconvened concluding session of the Ad Hoc Committee to Elaborate a Comprehensive International Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies for Criminal Purposes, held during 29 July- 9 August at the UN headquarters in New York.
