The 2 reasons why I believe you MUST have a picture on your resume are the following:

1. We are attracted to human faces...and that is why when recruiters look through piles of resumes, they always get attracted to the picture of a candidate (if there is a picture).

And as more and more people are placing photos on their resumes, you should have a photo as well. Otherwise, you are lagging behind and I may not attract employers' attention, as much as other resumes with a picture will.

AND YES, YOU WILL BE DISCRIMINATED based on your picture. There is no law, rule, or regulation which will stop people from discriminating. It is our human nature to judge people on their appearance. If you agree with me, my advice is that you adapt. Make a good picture so you create a good first impression. And then learn to make an even better first impression in real life. I always recommend reading the 2 books "How to win friends and influence people" and "Make people like you in 90 seconds or less". If you haven't read them, you are not reaching your true potential.

I also highly recommend you to record videos alongside your application. I have found this to significantly increase your chances of a job application success, as I explain here.



2. Employers will look you up anyways on Google, FB, Linkedin. So instead of them finding a picture that is not presenting you in your best light, give them a professional positive photo on your resume. Create that first good impression.



However, you need to know that in some countries, such as the USA, UK, and Canada, most recruiters don't want pictures on resumes! These are just the standard rules recruiters follow.

Not this doesn't mean that all employers agree with the "no photo standards". As a general rule, I would avoid placing a picture on your resume if you are applying to big companies or to conservative ones such as law firms, banks, etc.

If on the other hand, you are applying for small companies, or more liberal ones, then you can shoot with a photo :)

There is no right or wrong. You are the boss and you decide every time you send your resume.
