Storytelling is essential to the intergenerational transfer of knowledge, values and culture. In the context of the family business, these narratives, according to Guillermo Salazar, usually revolve around the founder and adhere to a particular structure - a ‘monomyth’ - that we are all familiar with: think the story of the Buddha, or Jesus.

Moreover, subsequent generations of family business leaders look to this story -- the Hero's Journey - to continue to build the identity of the business - a critical piece in the multigenerational sustainability puzzle.
