Understanding the overall trend is important in determining the direction of the trade. It is much easier to go long when the trend is in your favor, and same is true with going short. The best entries show up on the chart clear as day but you must have the patience to wait for the combination of circumstances (indicators) to line up. Those circumstances are defined by 4 other indicators.

The Trendline is one of the most basic concepts in trading and it has earned its position as one of the best indicators in the HPS methodology.

In a lot of the charts you see you will note there are 2 sets of trend lines one on the top of the trend and one on the bottom, Basically when you can identify a trend that has an equal distant trend line both on the top and bottom of the ranges then you are identifying a channel. Channels are in the next lesson, but we will touch on them briefly to understand the concept of trends and of trend changes.
