How To Repair Seastar Hynautic Steering Helm Pump | EP 46 | Cruising/Boating Pacific Northwest | MV Makena Kai | Boat Repair | Steering Repair

In our last episode, our Seastar Hynautic H50 helm pump on the fly bridge began to leak steering oil shortly after leaving port on the Friday night. While there were slight concerns of loss of steering; the biggest ordeal turned out to be a dripping oily mess on the floor. To remedy this issue is require removal of the helm pump and the purchase of an "HS-05" repair kit. I purchased over the counter at a local Napa auto parts store but this can be ordered from many places including Amazon.
This video shows the steps taken including the removal, disassembly inspection, reassembly, reinstallation and air removal.
Is not a video of out boating on the water but hopefully it with help you to repair yours or prepare you of what to expect should you experience this issue.
All these boats are approaching this age and it is a common issue.
