1.Sri Markandeyar Temple, Thirukadaiyur, T.Manalmedu
After Shastiapthapoorthi and any other Ayush Homam at Thirukadaiyur, one should definitely visit this Ever-16 Markandeyar Temple, located 0.5 Kms from Thirukadaiyur.
It is believed that there is no death when consumed Amirtham. Likewise, if we offer our prayers to Amirthakadeshwarar, there would be no Yama Fear. This is the reason why Markandeyar migrated here from his native place Thondi and had settled in T. Manalmedu (0.5 kms southwest of Thirukadaiyur). He had worshipped Lord Amirthakadeshwar, offered Abishegam from the Holy Ganga water to increase his life longevity, since his death was fixed on the day of his completing 16 years. Accordingly, on that particular day when Markandeyar completes his 16 years, Lord Yama appeared to take his Ayul. Lord Shiva for the sake of his sincere devotee Markandeyar, took the form of Rudra – Rudra Avadaaram (Man form) and had kicked Lord Yama with his left leg and killed Yama. Since Lord Shiva Killed Kaalan (Yaman), he is popularly known as Kaala Samhara Murthy. This event of Yama Samharam is still popular in Thirukadaiyur which takes every year during the First month of the Tamil Year Chithirai (Mesha Month) during Magam star.
Markandeyar also got the boon of Ever-16 (Siranjeevi) from Lord Shiva. This is the primary reason why Shastiapthapoorthi is very famous and is being celebrated in Thirukadaiyur.
2.Thiruvidaikkazhi – A Temple With Two Main Deities
There is a well-known saying in Tamil “Kundrirukkum Idamellam Kumaran Irupan”, which means that wherever you see a Hillock or Mound, you can see Lord Murugan there. But you can also say “Wherever you see a KURA tree, there also you can see the Lord Muruga” (means KURA maram irukkum Idamum Kumaran Irukkum Idame). Yes!! As the saying goes, we are now going to know about one such Murugan temple that has its own uniqueness.

3.ANANTHAMANGALAM ANJANEYAR HANUMAN TEMPLE
The deity of the Lord in this temple has three eyes. He holds the Conch, a Chakra, a Soolam, a Kabalam, a a Madhatchagam, Pasamankusam, a Bow, an Arrow, a Sattai, , a Navaneetham and two feathers in each of his hands.During the month of 'margazhi', the festival of 'Hanuman Jayanthi' is celebrated with joy and pomp with 'Special Abhishekam' and by offering 'Annathanam' they are meals, which are free of costs which are provided to the public. Devotees also fast for a month and eighteen days, that too for two times of the day. They recite hymns such as the Hanuman Thudhi for a period of forty eight days. On the last day of the fast, the devotees visit Ananthamangalam, reaching the place, they pray to God. If a devotee holds a fast with utmost devotion, then God will grant all of his wishes.
Normally, any temple will have one main God that can be seen in the main Sannidhi or the Garbhagriha. But the unique thing about this temple is that both Lord Shiva and Lord Muruga are found in the same Garbhagriha. They both are considered as the main Deity of this temple.
According to the Sthala Puranam, after killing Surapadman in Thiruchendur, the Lord Bala Subramaniya (Muruga) killed Surapadman’s son, Hiranyasuran in this Sthala. After the massacre, Lord Muruga offered his prayers to Lord Shiva (Papavimochana Nathar) to wash away his sins and to get the blessings of his father. After being impressed by the prayers of Lord Muruga, Lord Shiva appeared and he blessed his son. He also made his Son to stand in the front, as he took a position that is slightly behind. So, when you visit the temple, you can notice that in the main Sannidhi (Garbhagriha), the 6 feet tall Murugan Idol will be in the front and the Lord Shiva’s will be behind, slightly towards the Northwest facing in east direction. You can also see a small sized Spatika Lingam in front of Lord Muruga.
