Israeli airstrike hits tents for displaced Gazans sheltering at Al-Aqsa Hospital

On Monday, an Israeli airstrike killed three people and wounded 40 others when it hit some tents of displaced Palestinians inside Al-Aqsa Hospital in the central Gaza Strip city of Deir Al-Balah, where a million people were sheltering, medics said. Following the strike, displaced Gazans gathered to assess the damage left to their tents and belongings.

"Around 1:30 or 2:00 a.m., we woke up to the sound of a huge explosion. It was enormous and unexpected; we thought it was Judgment Day—it felt like that," said Aouni Khattab, a displaced Gazan who lost his sheltering tent and all his belongings in the strike.

The Israeli military said it struck militants operating from a command centre inside the compound, accusing Hamas of using civilian facilities such as hospitals for military purposes, which Hamas denies.
